MSNBC has completely re-written the story I linked to (I hate it when they do that), but it did say sexual assault at one point.
I've read and re-read the report

and didn't see any mention of a sexual assault.

It's definitely a crime to make a false police report. Unfortunately, this isn't the first and likely won't be the last. I'm surprised that it hasn't been labeled as a racist crime or hate crime.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but the political rhetoric seems to be worse this year than ever.

For a previous false report, see here: http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/15066

And nearly as tragic as the real victims who suffer in silence is the devastation of the accused and those on the periphery of the lie. The Tawana Brawley case and the Duke Lacrosse debacle come to mind.

The Real Tragedy Over The McCain Supporters Attack Fraud

Now that the John McCain supporter who claimed to have been robbed, sexually assaulted, and mutilated due to her McCain bumper sticker has admitted that she made the whole thing up, I just want to make sure the most disgusting part of the whole thing gets mentioned. And it has nothing to do with politics.

Every time someone gets caught lying about being sexually assaulted I always have to ask my self the same question: how many real victims won’t come forward because of this? How many real victims are afraid that people won’t believe them and they’ll end up like this woman has, even though they are telling the truth?

I think it would be a downright tragedy to let the focus of this fall along political lines rather that the real damage this has caused.
