I've been hearing alot of great things about Chandra, so I went to see him speak for the first time last night. He was every bit the motivational speaker that everyone had told me about. Like AmberCat, the only people I've heard talk about Marc Dann are Democratic Party people and a few people who awarded Dann the Backbone Award last year. I have to say that my support is swinging from Dann to Chandra.

Normally, though, you don't act for a surrogate for a campaign unless you are supporting that candidate. Thus, my confusion because Hackett really didn't mention the race beyond what you described.

Prior comments cleared up my confusion. I'm just used to thinking of surrogates as supporters. It probably didn't hurt Dann to have Hackett mention him though. Noticed the Butler Cnty. HQ had no Brown materials whatsover.

I attended this and didn't get the impression that Hackett was endorsing Dann whatsoever. He said that Marc had called him the day before and asked him to fill in for him at the event. No endorsement was given or implied IMO. Great speech by Paul though, I'm glad I was there.
People are hearing about Chandra and loving him. He's been turning on people who don't even know what blogs are. I hear almost nothing abotu Dann except from a couple of email buddies who are active in the party.

Chandra has been to Montgomery county

He spoke to a class at the University of Dayton on Wednesday afternoon and attended a fundraiser on Thursday. He was well-received by the 30 students at the former. He also got the endorsement of the Dayton Daily News which should help some too. It would be helpful if the Montgomery county party would add their endorsement too. Lots of local officials have their names as endorsing him, including Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin, county commissioner Debbie Lieberman, three other Dayton city commissioners, and several other officials.
the word out in SW Ohio about Chandra. I was speaking with a fellow lawyer today from Dayton who is a liberal Dem. He hadn't heard of Chandra. I did my best to educate him and asked him to educate others. I know Chandra has been to events in Hamilton county, but he has to get around in Warren and Montgomery Counties, too, as well as Butler. If we don't have the bucks to put into his campaign, at least we can open our mouths and not just sit behind a monitor chatting among ourselves.

Polling?

What are you, the DCCC?

You won't make a move until you see proof on paper that it is worth your time?

You want a poll? Here it is:

Dann is winning. And he will be winning. He will be ahead every day. But that does not matter. It matter who is ahead ON election day.

If you need a poll to tell you that . . . I am sure the DCCC is looking for a Deputy Assistant Press Secretary to organize interns.

Cool, good to know

But generally, when someone is at a political event on behalf of a candidate, they tend to think of that person as a supporting surrogate for the campaign. I think some people may have gotten the impression, as I did, that Hackett was supporting Dann.

It didn't help the confusion that State Rep. Catherine Barrett was there on behalf of the Strickland campaign, and she has endorsed Strickland. Incidentially, she is also a victim of democratic party "hacketting," but has handled the situation really well.

So, I think that would add to people's impression that Hackett was also supporting Dann. Thanks for the clarification, and doing the grunt work in looking into it.

I never even knew Dann was invited to be the keynote. It's kind of odd since our county party chairman has already endorsed Chandra. The party itself never took up the issue of endorsement, but if it had, Chandra clearly would have won the endorsement, I think.

won't not vote for a guy because of the color of his skin (double negative intended). if chandra can get his message out, people will vote for him. he'll need money to do that. but if he can get that money, i think he stands a good chance. question: where is the money? josh mandel is running a freaking state house race and has close to $250,000 on hand!

is there any polling on this race?

Couldn't the question just as easily be

Couldn't the question just as easily be can the people of Ohio vote for a White male Democrat? We send snoozer White male after snoozer White male up to be shot down over and over again and no one asks that question.

Chandra blows every other candidate I have ever seen out of the water. If not him, who? If not now, when? Being for equality and justice begins at home. Best man for the job and it's hard to argue that Chandra is that.

Personally I think that Chandra is just the type of dynamic candidate that can take on someone like Montgomery. His ethnicity will be an asset because it will draw cameras to him, just like Hackett's veteran status drew cameras to him. He needs free air time to win, so why not play off it? Media needs an interesting hook and Chandra's certainly got that.
Hackett's Law Office and asked them what the deal was... One of his staff over there said that was exactly what happened; Dann couldn't be there to keynote, out of respect his staff was looking for a replacement, they called Hackett. He agreed to go. It's not an endorsement. The rest of what the guy over there said was basically Hackett likes both guys, etc etc, and this was just to make sure that there was someone to talk at the event.

Subodh has excited people. I see little old ladies who think he is GREAT. He is a well-disiplined candidate, he gives that SAME damn speech 6 times a day every day, and he does it well.

I don't know if he will beat Dann. But if you DO wnat him to win, you people should be out PROMOTING him instead of wringing you hands and whining. Yes, he needs more money. They almost ALWAYS need more money, espicially if they are truely a 'grass-roots' campaign.

But it's not ALL about the moo-la if you are not a top of the ticket candidate. Ask Russo, he helped on a race that was outspent 5-1 and still won.

If Subodh can get up on the air . . . and by air . . . hell man . . . radio is a lot cheaper than TV . . . AND get some mail into the right people's hands with the right message . . . AND get his people on every street corner to do GOTV election weekend . . . He will win.

And whoop tee doo . . . we will have a Democrat win a Democratic Primary . . . and the question still is . . . can SC win a General Election? Note: He's brown.

In my mind - that is the LIBERAL question here . . . can Ohio . . . the PEOPLE of Ohio . . . the I's and the R's . . . vote for a man with brown skin?

Hackett for Dann?!?

I attended the grand opening of the new Butler County Democratic Party HQ last night and Paul Hackett was the keynote speaker. In beginning his remarks, he told the overflow crowd that he was here on behalf of Marc Dann who sent his regards.

Hackett never mentioned Dann or the AG's race again, but did mention that Ted Strickland is someone we absolutely had to get elected for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

I'll write more about the Butler County meeting later, but does anyone know if Hackett endorsed Dann and I missed it? Or am I reading too much into the fact that Hackett said he was there on behalf of Dann?

So confused......
