Young Democrats of America Executive Director Alexandra Acker traveled to Cleveland today to address the Summer membership meeting of the Ohio Young Democrats. OYD's Youth Voter Turnout Plan (I call it Buck-iVote08) calls for knocking on 52,000 doors in precincts containing at least 25% of voters between the age of 18-35 throughout the state. This peer-to-peer contact plan is intended to increase youth voter turnout in Ohio 157% over the 2004 election.

The plan makes sense. Since roughly 80% of young people are engaged in following the 2008 election thus far (compared to only 42% in 2004), and since young people have voted heavily Democratic in the last two election cycles, targeting young people with GOTV drives is a good investment in this election cycle. I'll write more about the plan later.
