Petro won't run

Jim Petro would be a good candidate for the Republicans, but won't run for AG again -- he is too busy building the foundation for a run for Chief Justice in 2010, and knows that he would be behind the eight-ball on fundraising. Petro is smart enough of a politician to know that if he looses an AG race, and thus would loose two races in two elections, he won't be a viable candidate for Chief Justice in 2010.

At this point, the Republicans should start searching for city prosecutors or law directors -- someone who wants to make a name for him/herself on a statewise platform, but who knows he/she will get creamed by Cordray.

PO, forgive David for a little colorful headline writing, in this case I think its more than justified after all the GOPers who quivered at the site of Rich Cordray, including Montgomery, Pryce, DeWine, etc. etc. Their screening committee meeting almost didn't have any candidates to screen! If you can't see the humor in that, you need a drink.

Oh, and David didn't cal Petro a scapegoat. He called him a sacrifical lamb. Not the same thing at all.

I wouldn't call Petro a 'scapegoat'. He's more than capable of raising money and he's won statewide many times before. Don't get too arrogant, liberals.
[Rumor] Petro To Be GOP Sacrificial Lamb In AG Race

I've been hearing rumors that the Ohio Republican Party has somehow suckered Jim Petro into running as their candidate for Attorney General in November.

UPDATE: A 2nd source confirms this rumor. Apparently it required arm twisting such that Jim Petro's pitching career is over, but he's likely to be their nominee.
