The only surprise....

I think the only surprise here is people who were naive enough to believe the state blogs would actually be selected using some sort of neutral criteria.

The Party wants to control the messaging. Therefore, it's going to pick the blog or blogs they can best control & who will be the best cheerleaders, no matter what the "selection process" revealed.

UPDATED: We Weren't The Only Ones

Last week, my post about how BSB was "rogered good" by the Ohio Democratic Party generated quite a bit of controversy. Now word is getting out that we weren't the only ones. Not by a long shot.

The Open Left Blog has this post up about other states where progressive blogs were denied credentials in favor of blogs that were more neutral and less controversial, even if they lost the competition based on the criteria the DNCC specified. So far, Mississippi, Maryland, Alabama, New York, New Jersey and Michigan have been identified as situations similar to Ohio, where the blog that was won the competition was vetoed by the state party. This shows a repeated pattern where the DNCC kowtowed to state parties for petty differences with blog owners instead of sticking to its metrics.

Open Left is organizing a petition drive to force Howard Dean to correct this problem and have the DNCC credential the blog from each state that beat the competition on the criteria specified (age of the blog, technoarti rating, traffic).

UPDATE: BSB has been contact with the proprietor of other state blogs in a similar positions to BSB. We are reaching out to other state blogs that were denied and will be contacting the DNC looking for a resolution.
