the whole point of getting the media there was to make Dann look like the victim of an unreasonable investigation? i know the media isn't biting on that angle, but if the IG doesn't find anything, it definitely makes dann look like the martyr here.

Reporters were gathered in the Ohio attorney general's office in Columbus awaiting an announcement this afternoon from Attorney General Marc Dann about his political future. But a Dann spokesman said Dann was at lunch and no announcement was imminent.
Meanwhile, about a dozen investigators from the Ohio inspector general's office showed up at the attorney general's office to begin an independent investigation. They have already confiscated some computer equipment, and State Highway Patrol officers are on the ground floor of the Rhodes Tower checking people's badges and belongings as they leave.
Lt. Jim Wernecke of the patrol confirmed that the patrol is there at the request of the inspector general. He would not comment further.
Jim Gravelle, a Dann spokesman, said no announcement was scheduled.

Sounds like Dann needs to fire his new political spokesman for Texas. Dann was literally out to lunch when the media showed up for a press conference that his political spokeman, Jason Stanford, said "attendence was mandatory" except for, apparently, the Attorney General.

But by a strange coincidence, while the media is stewing over coming to a press conference that nobody else knew about and was not going to happen, they were able to see the swift action of the Inspector General as he locks down the AG's office, seizing computers and documents.

Exactly the kind of news you want when you're trying to convince the public that a political scandal isn't interfering with your public duties.
