To become respected, let alone well respected, on Cleveland City Council requires pissing people off. Fannie Lewis has pissed off more people than anyone can count, and that's precisely the reason people like her. She does get things done.

Most politicians spend all their time getting elected then spend all their time getting back rubs in massage parlors, riding in limos. It is a catch 22 for the politician. For the CAREER politician. If you fix problems, then you eliminate issues in your platform for re-election.

Many politicians aren't interested in solutions. They focus on PROBLEMS. Democrat AND REPUBLICAN. If you fix the problem who remembers?

The strategy that most politicians follow is DON'T do anything!!!!

Do anything good, no one remembers.

Do anything bad and you'll end up like Elliot Spitzer. Who remembers ANYTHING he did the day his bad behavior was revealed.

DON'T DO ANYTHING to ensure your re-election.

I'm not saying this is every case, HOWEVER in my neighborhood "Well Respected" being said of a politician means "hasn't pissed anyone off" and "Doesn't get *hit done"

Cleveland is a battle zone, Toledo is worse and the area is run by union loyal democrats.

Democrats as well as republicans NEED TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT.

Our form of government was meant for those serving to be BI-vocational. These attorneys that become career politicians are mentally ill.

E. 99th & St. Clair is Hough. Hough was the neighborhood hardest hit by early white flight. A significant portion of Hough is now the Cleveland Clinic because of this.

If you mean to ask who is the elected representative, her name is Councilwoman Fannie Lewis. She is one of the longest-serving members in history, is well-respected, and is everywhere in her neighborhood. Nice try with your generalities.

I hear the same thing from my African American clients, they carry flyers on their backs, go door to door, organize fund raisers (when many of them are on food stamps) then when the black candidate gets elected, THEY ARE NEVER HEARD FROM AGAIN. They won't even answer calls made to their office. (Democrat and republican alike)

I made the assumption, based on your words, that you are a white person trying to enflame racial tensions. You made the assumption, based on my words, that I am a black person trying to shout you down so you can't say anything constructive. Neither assumption is true.

But what is true is that you made the statement trying to enflame tensions. You also did not say anything constructive. If you make a comment deliberately intended to divide and then defend it like you're trying to unite, that makes you a hypocrite. And anytime someone uses language designed to divide along racial lines, that type of behavior merits a reaction in kind. You wanted a reaction so you could spout off what you wrote in reply. That's why you wrote what you did originally. Congratulations. You got it. It's quite disingenuous of you to pretend like you're actually seeking to bring people together.

If hanging around E. 99th & St. Clair after dark on a Saturday in July doesn't scare you right now, you're a fool. It scares the people who live there. It scares police I know who have to respond to calls there--white and black alike. The only people who claim they aren't scared right now are the 15 year olds buying illegal handguns from the drug dealers squatting in a foreclosed house and using those guns to cause mayhem because they think it makes them look hard. They are the reason people are scared--they don't seem to understand that life is not a game. Having a positive role model who overcomes the negative attacks seeking to drag him into the muck would do wonders for those kids. Hillary Clinton is not that positive role model.

My mentor is a black, Negro (African American if you prefer) man.

I see it in my African American clients eyes and hear it in their statements. They are afraid of white people and the culture they don't understand. The same way white people are afraid of black culture that they don't understand.

But, I meet as many people that don't seem to get why I wear a suit into their neighborhood, everyday and try to help get something accomplished by accepting "Pro-Bono" clients. Maybe I am ignorant.

Racism is rooted in FEAR. Fear that turns to hate. I fear you, because I don't "get" you.

I certainly don't understand why it is "cool" to have 5 baby-mommas all around town. I don't understand "livin' large" (receiving section 8 housing, free air conditioning, lawn mowing services, food stamps, medicaid, yet still be able to drive an Escalade?????? The car is paid for with drug money, registered in someones mom's name and paid for by a "babies daddy" thuggery.)

Obama doesn't get me. He might understand "thug life" but he doesn't represent ME. White middle class America. So Obama can't fix FEAR because he is to busy NOT-attending his church of proclaimed membership to hear anti-white racist vomit.
Frustrated? Yeah! Bitter, not really.

A visit to 99 & St. Clair doesn't scare me in the least, but you'd like it to.

Thank my "Gawd" that I cling to, because if I didn't I'd be bitter and not represent people that can't pay. My African American friends and I service clients that "can't pay" but drive nicer cars than we do and the clients haven't worked a day in their life.

Obama can't fix the FEAR of differing cultures that people don't understand. There are "two Americas", 3 Americas, four as many cultures as people that chose to preserve their "cultural identity."

This is the great melting pot, but people are refusing to melt and they want to cram their culture down my throat and force me to accept their diversity. Why don't YOU accept MY non-diversity. I don't want to be different, I want to be the SAME and find what we have in common to bring us together, not focus on what makes us different and keeps us separate.

You want me to come and make statements on my thoughts about Obama so you HOPE (like Obama) that some thugs, will beat me down or stab me. Even if I did no one would do *hit. Because I can make my point without getting stabbed, beaten or shot.

Did you not see the fiasco of the 2000 Bush vs. Gore how did the math work out then?

Omniscience doesn't have anything to do with the outline of tens of thousands of dollars spent on polling for his own election. I could have sworn I covered that.

Disenfranchise as many voters as possible.

The more people lose interest in politics the fewer the voters that have to be influenced/controlled. The easier it becomes to influence the outcome of elections.

The MORE people participate in government the stronger (better action in) government we will have.

Eliminate the voters all together, and we can run around in our underpants not just through The White House , but the Congress as well.

The fewer people that are interested in what their government does, the easier it will be to legislate over the will of the people.

Why do we need voters to vote in elections? They are busy voting on American idol. Sadly, they have as much influence on that show as they do in politics.

Educated well informed constituents are dangerous, for politicians.

Kasich vs. Strickland, 2010 - a REAL good reason for Ted to switch endorsements

NixGuy brought this to my attention. I've had a few conversations with people about 2010, and I believe that Strickland's gonna be in trouble vs. Kasich, largely because of tying himself at the hip to Hillary Clinton in 2008.

In a world where Hillary Clinton was an inevitable nominee, and there was no Barack Obama, Ted endorsing Hillary early was safe. Ohio's primary wouldn't have mattered, Ted wouldn't have had to lift a finger. And Ted would have been seen as a loyal soldier in the march to the White House.

That world became a fantasy pretty quick, and Ted had to do WAY more than I am quite certain he had planned, or wanted to do, for Hillary. Ted has spent the better part of the last 4 months putting miles of videotape into the GOP's hands with him standing next to Hillary, the most hated woman in the history of the GOP. There's Ted standing there nodding his head while Hillary lies about NAFTA. There's Ted screaming her name. There's Ted waving his hands in the air while Hillary does the seal clap. The ads write themselves.

And it's not only a GOP problem for Ted. It's a problem with independents. Hillary is no less polaraizing among Ohio's independents, to whom Ted largely owes his governorship, than she is among Ohio's Republicans.

I'm sure the Ted folks will say, but look! Hillary won Ohio on March 4! Well, fine....go ahead and dream on. First of all, it wasn't a general election. Second, those same people who voted for Hillary over Barack on March 4, voted for a woman they loathe over the black guy they don't really know. They still loathe her. And the longer this primary goes on in 2008, the more reason she gives them to loathe her. And they'll be reminded over and over again by John Kasich just how much they loathe her, and just how much Ted Strickland wrapped himself around her.

But what about the Democratic base in 2010? Ooops!....looks like Ted has tied himself to the one person who could turn black voters against the Democratic party for a generation. Oh, darn. If I were John Kasich, I'd be campaigning for an entire year in black precincts, passing out those pictures of Ted & Hillary to every church, barber shop, beauty salon, every black institution I could find that Hillary has managed to smear for months.

And the worst part? Hillary isn't even gonna be the nominee this year. Barack Obama will. Darn again. And then Ted's going to need Barack Obama WAY more than Barack Obama needs Ted now, or ever. Isn't that special. And if Hillary does somehow manage to win the nomination by superdelegate coup of Verdun-obliteration proportions, she will be destroyed in the general, and I wouldn't want to be a Democratic elected official in 2010 if my life depended on it. Especially one who endorsed the wrong candidate.

So how to solve this terrible re-election problem for Ted in 2010? Switch your endorsement, Ted. You'll prevent a civil war in the party, you'll begin to repair your ever weakening relationship with the black electorate, and maybe, just maybe, John Kasich's use of miles of Hillary video with you in them won't be so effective. You'll be a hero.

Not gonna hold my breath for it, but it makes a whole lotta sense to me.
