Sorry Frank, I'm not willing to give up a hard-won Senate seat in order to get Obama a running mate. Obama needs a running mate who is a white male from the South with strong national security credentials. That's why I think Wes Clark is the obvious choice. Other choices include former Sen. Sam Nunn (GA), former Sen. Max Cleland (GA), former Sen. Bob Graham (FL). Wes Clark is from Arkansas, a state that voted for the Clintons but voted for Bush both times, that makes it a swing state I think, and those 6 electoral votes would have gotten Gore the white house had he won them. Of course, Bob Graham would be a great choice if he could swing FL and its 27 EVs. I still question Kerry's decision to go with Edwards instead of Graham for his running mate. Graham could have delivered Florida.

I don't give a crap who Obama's VP is (except for a Republican: Powell) as long as they (by themselves) can win a state that will be in play. So no Edwards, no Clark, & no Webb. Possibiliies: Mark Warner (VA), Tim Kaine (VA), Bill Richardson (NM), Ted Strickland (OH), Ed Rendell (PA)... I'm sure there are a few others, but if they aren't from a swing state and have great infrastructure to bring - Obama doesn't need them.

I love Chris Dodd, he's got the "experience" thing with regard to all issues, but of course foreign policy, he was in the Peace Corps which gives him big plusses in my book, and speaks a second language fluently (Spanish) and wrote a book about the Nuremberg trials, something the current administration must never have heard of.

Bill Richardson, a governor, a mellow guy, a hispanic, multi-lingual, huge foreign policy credentials, what's not to like here?

Jim Webb, because of his service creds and help in winning his home state of Virginia would be a good argument for him.

Just my 2 cents~ I just hope, and I think he will, pick someone that will compliment the "vision thing" he's got going on.

who the stenographic press will respect by forcefully denouncing the Hussein swiftboating. Webb and Clark are maybes. Hagel is tooideologically right-wing on most issues. Richardson has gravitas and helps with the Latino vote against McCain. But could he forcefully defend Obama? A good ole boy like Jon Tester might help. Edwards is a no-brainer for Attorney General.

Being elected would not redeem him. The first step in his redemption would require him to explain his decisions as a member of the Bush administration.

What was he thinking when he decided to represent his country in the U.N. with what he knew was bogus evidence for WMDs? What was he thinking when he stood by and failed to object publicly to the Bush occupation plan for certain failure in Iraq? He was the one person with the kind of standing who might have been able to bring pressure to bear on Bush and the PNACs.

Because it sure looks as though he was thinking about himself and his career only. I would have an extremely hard time voting for the candidate I now endorse--Obama--if he chose Powell for his VP.

Former Edwards supporter here who's leaning Obama but very disappointed that the corporate media, tycoons and the voters of only four small states narrowed the field to two choices. 
 
I'm at Whetstone Library in Columbus the other day and a man asks the librarian if Obama has a campaign office across the street. The librarian doesn't know so I make the mistake of saying yes. The elderly man asks me why anyone would support Obama. I say there's really only two choices but he's capable blah, blah... 
 
The man then says that he plans to get an Barack Hussein Obama yard sign so he can doctor it up to read, "Don't vote for the Muslim." And that Obama's father and stepfather were Muslims and Obama is one too and his mom was an atheist and he went to a madrassa in Indonesia, etc. 
 
I let the guy know that the Constitution states that there should be no religious test for political office but Obama has attended a Christian church for twenty some years and is a Baptized Christian and he should respect that. The guy rejects the fact that Obama is Baptized. 
 
That opened up a can of worms about the website and pastor of Obama's church. Apparently this guy is not bothered by American-Irish people parading through the closed streets of cities across America in a few weeks waving Irish flags. Or by the fact that almost every ethnic group clings to ethnic traditions.

I doubt this guy has ever asked for a Democratic ballot. My point is that Obama better be ready for what's coming. William "The Bloody" Kristol recently suggested that HRC should use fear against Obama. The swiftboaters were ready for HRC but are test marketing how far they can take things against Obama. 
 
Here's my advice to the Obama campaign: 
 
1. Choose a V.P. with a ton of gravitas. Colin Powell blew it by going to the U.N. with phoney docs about WMD in Iraq. But, he's always been a good soldier. He's one person that could persuade most voters to disregard the right wings' smears. He could be more of a figurehead V.P. once in office and this is a way for Powell to redeem himself. I wish I could think of someone else that carries Powell's weight but can't. Ideas? 
 
2. Repeatedly pound the fact that Obama could have left Harvard for millions on Wall Street but chose instead a career in public life. The right-wing is questioning his patriotism now to set up future accusations about his "true" motives. 
 
3. Display Obama's certificate of Baptism on the campaign's website. It's sad that such a move is necessary. But Dems must win this election or McCain and the Supreme Court will truly turn this country into a Banana Republic. 
 
I'll be looking for a check from the Obama campaign for the consulting......
