It's time to get mean.

Y'all remember our buddy Ray Miller, right? New Minority Leader of the Senate. Perhaps you remember his quote when he instigated his coup of the Senate Leadership:

"It's like a race in a sense, I think. Senator Fedor ran the first leg well and has passed the baton, and we plan to run even faster," said Miller...

Well, apparently this race involves raising $0 dollars for the Senate Caucus. From Gongwer's Friday edition:

The latest filings were due Thursday at the secretary of state's office, and among the more notable developments were the apparent lack of any - at least on the financial front - for the caucus that recently experienced a leadership change.

Ohio Senate Democrats, the campaign committee for the smallest Statehouse caucus with only 12 members, reported zero dollars raised for the pre-primary reporting period, which covers campaign finance activities from Jan. 1-Feb. 13.

The committee spent $11,588 and had an on-hand balance of $297,573, according to the group's report.

Messages seeking comment from Senate Minority Leader Ray Miller (D-Columbus) were not returned prior to deadline.

Yes, Miller raised nothing for the Senate caucus. Caucus funds are also used to aid Democratic Senate candidates across the state, so it's sort of funny that Miller sat on his ass and didn't raise anything because he said the Senate races were a priority for him.

"You will see the activities of this caucus elevated in the area of public policy and in the aggressiveness with which we pursue these upcoming (2008 state Senate) races."

Maybe we're all going to just hold hands and hope - hope really hard - that we win Senate races. Perhaps that's Miller's game plan. Or maybe he's going to hold a bakesale in the third quarter to raise everything we need. He's such a good fundraiser that he doesn't need to do crap until right before we need the money, then his magic goblin friends will deliver it to columbus by the wheelbarrel load. Or maybe it'll come in one of those small little clown cars. I'm sure our Democratic Senate candidates appreciate all this.

Ok...Democratic Senate caucus. I realize there were issue with Fedor. I get that. But OMG FER CRYING F'ING OUT LOUD WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?! I hate to say it, but everyone in the Senate caucus that voted for this guy has let Ohio Democrats down. This problem needs to be fixed - either by Miller starting to actually do his job, or by the Senate taking action against him. You folks don't need to worry about how taking action looks either, because things are already about as ridiculous as they could get.

The man raised nothing. He's not doing his job. Yet y'all continue to blow sunshine and smiles up all our asses that everything is fine in the Democratic Senate caucus. There's a few reasons other than just district lines why we aren't competitive in the Senate. This is one of them. I'd urge everyone to hold back on giving any money to the Senate caucus until we see something substantive out of these guys on what the heck they're going to do. Give to candidates, just don't throw your money down a hole by giving to the caucus.
