Black was a registered Republican until just before he decided to run for Congress. His father was a Republican judge in Hamilton County. This is not surprising at all.

As a Democratic lawyer in a heavily Republican area of Ohio, I've never once felt that a case of mine or anyone else has been decided based on campaign donations.

I'm not going to stand by and let you shit on the entire judicial system and every judge as an excuse to justify Black's donations to Republicans. And as far as I know, Black's NEVER argued a case before the Ohio Supreme Court, so your weak ass defense fails. Judges would need to recuse themselves if they knew a party was represented by a campaign donor. That's why the campaign fund is legally required to be kept separate from the knowledge of the candidate. You don't know what you're talking about and making a systematic accusation of corruption in trying to defend your candidate. It's weak and pathetic and simply is not true. It's the kind of false allegations we rejected when raised against Justice Resnick during one of Bill Todd's bogus, secret corporate fundraising organizations targeted her.

I'd also point out that a bulk of his donations went to non-judicial Republican candidates, include one out-of-state Congressional race. So how do you defend that?

is that what you just described, mr. cleanhouse? that's some clean house you're talking about. what's your guess as to why Steve Black became a Democrat?
How the Ohio Judicial System Works

I am amazed that people think cases in Ohio courts are decided "fairly and impartially." Unless it's a jury trial, cases are very frequently decided on the basis of campaign contributions, and the judiciary (and state government) is dominated by Republicans. Steve Black is a lawyer who represents his clients to the best of his ability. And unfortunately, in the "one party rule" state of Ohio, that often means holding your nose and writing a check because that is the way the system works -- and your client will thank you for it.
Any guesses on why Steve Black became a Democrat?

I posted here a months ago that I found out he donated to Libby Dole the last cycle she was in. I could handle that; Schmidt hates her. I can't handle the fact although donating to Wilson and Cranley last cycle, he even thought about hedging his bets with donations to Blackwell and Hartmann.

I'm not going to say I'm not going to vote for him if he wins the primary, because that's stupid. I do know that he has a long way to go if he even wants me to consider changing my allegiance in the primary from the Doc.

97X . . .
OH-2: WTF!?!? Candidate Black donated to Mary Taylor, Greg Hartmann, Bob Taft, Ken Blackwell...

Sorry if I'm late to the party, but I wanted to learn more about Stephen Black, the attorney running against Victoria Wulsin in the Democratic primary for the Second Congressional district. I'm not happy with what I've found.

According to the Secretary of State's Office, Mr. Black has a history of writing checks for Republicans, and a sparse history of financially supporting the Democratic Party.

During the Republican primaries in 2006, Black wrote checks for Mary Taylor and Greg Hartmann. He made no donations to any of the Democratic statewide candidates.

In 2004 and 2003, Black donated to Jim Petro and Chief Justice Moyer's campaigns. Again, no Democratic donations.

In 2002, he donated to Justice Stratton's campaign. The only Democratic campaign he donated to was Tim Black for Supreme Court.

In 2001, Black donated to Bob Taft, Jim Petro, Betty Montgomery, and Joe Deters. No donations to any Democrats.

In 2000, he donated to Betty Montgomery, with the only Democratic donation going to Tim Black.

1999 saw another donation to Jim Petro.

1998, he donated to Ken Blackwell and Bob Taft. He donated $25 to Richard Cordray's campaign as well.

Seriously, he wrote checks for Republican in 2006, and only wrote one check for a Democratic Court of Appeals candidate in Hamilton County. That's it!

Black's history of federal donations is also a mixed bag. Earlier this year, Black donated to Barack Obama's campaign and to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Last fall, Black also cut a check for his now primary opponent, Victoria Wulsin, and Steve Chabot's opponent, John Cranley.

However, in 1999, Black donated to Elizabeth Dole's presidential exploratory committee. In 1997, he also donated to a Republican congressional candidate in Virginia.

Any thoughts???
