You think this was the first election which D.C. consultants stepped foot in Ohio? The problem prior to this was that Ohio didn't have a legitimate state party system and relied too much on people outside of Ohio to make decisions.

The amount of money spent in this state in '04 and '00 was ungodly and we had nothing to show for it. Up until that point, we assumed the consultants would set us free and we didn't need a local structure. You're right by suggesting the ODP was godawful in the process, but they weren't the only culprits.

Blaming consultants? Ohio Dems had been doing such a bang up job getting people elected to statewide office up to that point, right? It was rather refreshing to have a national spotlight shown on the state party and its usual inbred, self-destructive strategies. Before then, the party couldn't get someone elected class president.

was the way a little cadre of national bloggers tried to rewrite the timeline to "prove" that Brown had entered the primary before Hackett, by using as Brown's entry date the date he indicated he would run but for Hackett using the date of his official announcement event, which came much later than his indication he was running. I wish guys like Armstrong wouldn't keep re-opening ths wound.

That Armstrong is defending his pollie is hilarious. That one purchases a higher membership level to get more pollie votes just makes the process ludicrous.

I noticed that too. It's sad he edits another guy's work in order to make an award he won seem legitimate. It's akin to me editing an article in my school's paper written by one of my residents which dimishes an award I won for being the best damn R.A. on the planet.

Come to think of it, it isn't like that at all. My award was awarded to me by my superiors, not from my "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" drinking buddies.

But the phantom primary Jerome speaks of wasn't that "fun" for any of the parties involved. I'm proud to have Sherrod Brown as my senator and it was people like Jerom who only sullied the process of getting a democrat elected in this state.

It's nice to see the cats who "Crashed the Gate" are building up their own walls.

Ok, so the US Senate Democratic primary battle is long over. Hackett dropped out. Sherrod won the primary (da Kaiser, anyone?) and the general (DeWhiner, anyone?). Thanks to Ohio, Dems took back the US Senate.

Now, I hope the folks at ODP don't get all riled up about this. They shouldn't. It's not about them, it's about national bloggers who hurt a lot of good Ohio activists in 06 -- and just can't seem to tell truth about what really happened.

Pollies are not all bad. BlogPac got one in the '04 cycle, and my old firm Political Technologies won a Pollie last week in the internet category for persuasive online advertising for the '06 campaigns. It was for the blogads by Sherrod Brown's campaign during the period just after Hackett and Brown entered the race, where we ran a large buy of blogads with the message of non-fundraising for the primary, and instead for the general:

Of course, it wasn't the blogads that accounted for Hackett's dismal show, but that was a short-rough-but-fun primary slugfest, with a good general outcome too.

Oh, Jerome. I wish I could quit you. But I can't, so here goes.

1. It was OUR primary. It wasn't a short-rough-but-fun primary slugfest. Let Ohio voters decide next time. After all, they're our elected officials.

2. Tell the truth. That's why the hurt lingered for so long. Sherrod was out, then he was in. All you had to do is say, "He changed his mind." Big deal. Happens all the time. Would have been a non-issue if the big boxers hadn't re-written history faster than you can hit ctrl+alt+del.

3. This is about the consultants, not Sherrod or Redfern or Ted or anybody else. Now, I don't hate DC consultants. Many are smart, passionate, and dedicated to the cause. But carpetbagging consultants who turn Rovian on other Dems should know that Ohio blogs will be just as vigilant in 08 as they were in 06. I'm just sayin'.

(p.s., Congrats again to Sherrod for the pick-up. Now, let's kick ass in the US Senate.)
