absentee balloting

Absentee balloting might be a double edged sword. The problem is this, this year (if I understand correctly) there will be exit polling in Ohio. So, if dems overload on absentee voting, we won't end up getting exit polled. Either way, they STILL OWN THE VOTING MACHINES. As for signage, the good news from my neck of the woods (west side Cincinnati) is that although there are a number of Chabot signs, not quite as many as in previous years, and a few Cranley signs (which would have been much more rare the last time around), only one or two Blackwell signs, no sightings of a DeWine sign, a couple Strickland signs. For this area, it's a good sign. (Until the Repugs start counting the votes, we have a shot).

One Dewine sign, placed by a First Energy tower

Seems appropriate.

Zero Blackwell signs on that street where Bush had a fundraiser in 2004 and a fundraiser in 2006. There was a GOP that always plants signs for his boys.

Bexley Signage

Here in Bexley (home of the Governor's mansion), I was discussing signage with another supporter at an Emily Kreider fundraiser last night. Between the two of us we came up with one Blackwell sign on Cassady, and one Pryce sign on Drexel (which is kind of funny, given that Bexley isn't in Pryce's district). There's hardly a street that doesn't have a Strickland, Shamansky, or Brown sign, and a bunch of down-ticket dems make appearances as well. I agree that signage doesn't move many votes, but I hold out hope that an overwhelming show of support on our side will be one more factor depressing base turnout on the other.

It's the custom in my community for signs not to be displayed until 30 days before an election.

I know the Dem party's been pushing absentee voting, and today my husband and I decided that we would vote absentee this year too, fwiw.

I mean, it looks like the number of absentee ballots cast this year is going to be so large that they won't be able to, you know, just, oops, forget to count them, without raising suspicion.

On the other hand, the vote totals, whether from the machines or the absentee ballots, are going to get fed into tabulators and nobody's really talking much about what happens then.

I think absentee ballots might be more convenient for voters, but he who

I saw my first Strickland sign

on Cedar Road in Cleveland Heights on Tuesday.

There is a house on Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights with two Blackwell yard signs (been up since before the primary) and an insurance office on Taylor Road with Blackwell signs in the window but they don't count because they all belong to Republican state house candidate Jimmie "Ken Blackwell Jr" Hicks.

My Dann, Strickland and Brunner yard signs are ready to go as soon as I make sure when they are legal here.

WHY WAIT UNTIL November 7?!!! Start taking your neighbors to the polls/BOE starting this Tuesday. THAT'S when the election starts this year. It only ends on November 7!

Avoid the lines, vote next week!!!

Susan:

Glad you plaster your car and yard. IMHO, the yardsigns and bumper stickers are still important to people who get irked at the tee-vee ads. Plus, a show of force for one candidate is always powerful.

Thanks!

Susan:

You're right that yard signs don't vote. However, a lot of uninformed people do, especially in my neck of the woods, and a good number of them want to vote for the winner. They look to yard signs to gauge support and vote accordingly.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but it's hugely important in small town/rural areas like mine.

Get out there and start sticking some signs in the ground and bumper stickers on your back windows. This is grass roots at its finest!

Besides, all it costs is your effort.

I have a barn that get's over run with rats every fall and a picture of those two would scare the hell out of them.

Have you ever seen anyone as ugly as DeWine is. Is it true that when he was born the doctor smacked his mother then advised his dad to start masturbating and save the enviorment.

Thanks...rest of the state?

Thanks Kathy and redhorse. For the rest of you, what are you seeing out there?

Also, if we're being outnumbered, let's plaster the state with Sherrod and Ted stuff. At least in my area, signs and bumperstickers are all that people talk about. Those who aren't "in tune" to the race count yard signs and, for many of those casual observers, they'll vote for whichever candidate has the most signs out. Stupid, but true.
