what's liberal about advocating for American jobs and against MFN status for communist China? And what's conservative about running $bilions of trade deficit and budget busting tax breaks? People aren't stupid, they've just been treated as if they were. That's going to change...

And I'm way to the left of either Pierce or Dewine. People in the middle will find they can live with DeWine nicely come November. Pierce may pull off some of the far-righters in the primary but it's a different ballgame in the fall. When those people see how flaming liberal (in their opinion) Brown is, they'll be at the polls to vote for DeWine in droves, especially if they're already there to vote for (shudder) Blackwell.

They are discontented

Conservatives are pretty unhappy with DeWine, who has touted himself as a "moderate" when voting and as a "conservative" while running~ plus he's boring and uninspiring.

I think many Republicans are getting disillusioned and disappointed with the Bush administration (finally!) and DeWine has been right at his side on this ports deal and an apologist for the domestic spying, policies that real conservatives don't like.

Traditional republicans are more pragmatic and are more "America 1st" , and finally I think some Republicans are seeing the disconnect between the rhetoric and the actions of this Administration and thier supporters in Congress. DeWine maybe is being perceived a "my president right or wrong except he's never wrong" kinda guy and Ohio republicans see that as a weakness~ for both the reason that they are disenchanted with Bush themselves and they recognize that his ratings might stick to DeWine like tree sap.

They're not all excited and rallying~ I think they're tired of that whole bunch making them look bad as Republicans and ruining thier party.

I think Brown, Stirckland and the other democrat candidates this year will be able to provide a lot of those disappointed people with a choice that they can live with~

Is Bill Pierce rather than Sherrod Brown the real threat to Mike DeWine's reelection ?

File this under rumor with skeptisism for now, because my sources on the other side of the isle are untested, but someone sent me this

If the Republican primary for US Senate were held today, whom would you support if the candidates are Mike DeWine and Bill Pierce?

Mike DeWine 41%
Bill Pierce 26%

I can't believe these numbers even though Pierce has been getting more county party endorsements than DeWine lately and the base is clearly restless. Someone with credibility ought to poll this race.

If anyone has a copy of this polling report I would love to see it, right now I have a hard time believing it's real.
