Couldn't Pass This Up
Just a reminder: These are the people we're up against.
The AP is reporting that South Carolina Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer, running to replace the term limited Mark Sanford, said the following in a stump speech:
Lawmakers knew if they removed Sanford, they would end up with Bauer, a fiercely ambitious Republican with a reputation for reckless and immature behavior.
Now Bauer has folks shaking their heads again, after he likened government assistance to the poor to feeding stray animals.
At a town hall meeting Thursday, Bauer, who is running for governor in his own right now that Sanford is term-limited, said: "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."
I heard there was some concern in S.C.
Grrrrrrrr....
This LG wingnut in SC didn't specify the animal species that should be deprived of food...but his grandma's use of the term "stray" sure seems like dog profiling to me. He DID specify the "govmint assistance" he opposes is the national school lunch program for kids in low-income families -- about 75 percent of kids in Columbus, Cleveland other big city schools. Take food from kids and dogs? Makes my canine teeth drool for his jugular,
We need to make this Bauer nutball a wanted poster "child" for the GoP right wingers who think 2010 will be their cake walk. John Stewart on Comedy Channel sounded the alarm in Massachusetts: "The Kennedy legacy is going to a naked guy in a pickup truck?!!?" Progressives should stop quibbling about Obama's "backbone" and re-examine ours for 2010..... or guys like Bauer and Brown will lead the charge back to the Dark Ages.
Nick? David?
Not All of Us Are Lawyers :)
Modern, my old friend, I do apologize for not posting sooner, but I had to get home from work, read the text of the speech, and watch some video clips before I could offer intelligent commentary on it. Not all of us are lawyers who can dictate our own schedules. :) I don't know what David was up to today.
On the rest of the items you mention above, however, point taken. I'll be posting more on these in the future.

Actually, there was a strong push to get rid of Sanford
The article said "Lawmakers knew if they removed Sanford, they would end up with Bauer" as if to imply that's why Sanford wasn't removed. But in a state with a Republican Gov, Rep Lt. Gov (elected separately), Rep Senate and Rep House, there was a very strong push to get Sanford out.
Bauer's comments were stupid, pure and simple. I won't defend him at all. But every conservative I know of said that Lt. Gov. Bauer should not be a reason to keep Sanford.
