Congressman LaTourette Owes An Explanation To 71,000 People

Promoted from the forums. It should be noted that Bill ran against LaTourette in '08, but that doesn't make this any less important. --David

Congressman LaTourette has some explaining to do.  You remember Steve.  Last year he refused to explain how his votes on the Financial Services Committee to deregulate the banks led to the financial collapse of the free world.  The fact that they gave him over ONE MILLION DOLLARS in contributions in return just didn't seem worthy of an explanation.  Well now, things seem to have taken a new twist.  Congressman LaTourette is now on the powerful House Committee on Ways and Means.  And his inability to explain the unexplainable seems to have followed him.  Take for example his steadfast refusal to consider meaningful reform of health care.  There are a full 71,000 UNINSURED INDIVIDUALS IN THE 14TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT.  That's a lot of folks to ignore, even for Steve. And they deserve an explanation.  Last year alone, there were 1,400 health care related bankruptcies in the District.  And that left a full $27 million worth of uncompensated care that had to be paid for by someone.

So the question remains, Steve.  Are you planning on doing anything other than voting "no" again?

But then again, let's not forget, Steve and his family in Virginia have the best health care money can buy.  Our money that is. I guess health care is a right for a Congressman's family...but not for everybody else.  Bill O'Neill

took care of this issue when Tim Russo posted his piece of crap video of being b****slapped by Latourette. LaTourette already introduced a bipartisan plan with Marcy Kaptur addressing the issue of health care reform and trying to get the uninsured insurance. In fact, from the website, "The HealthCARE Act, H.R. 956, will establish insurance pools at the state level very similar to the program used by federal workers." Enough with the partisan attacks and standard issue talking points. Let's use some facts. http://latourette.house.gov/Issues.aspx?Section=8

I just read that and while it's nice and all, it's far too inadequate to address the full scope of the problems we're facing today. It's a little tiny baby step that makes it look like LaTourette is supporting meaningful reform when he's not really. Statewide pools? Given the current state of the private insurance companies that's probably not going to address the problem. And this to me sounds like the ol' trigger thing, which is a "we'll give it lip service, but it ain't happening in MY lifetime" evasion: "The legislation also establishes a committee to explore what methods would be most effective to expand the program to increase the number of people having health insurance coverage." We're way beyond the time for forming new committees. Six committes in congress are already studying this. I'm sure Marcy sees this bill as only a tiny part of what she wants to do. Does Steve?

Also, if you're so concerned with 'partisan" attacks, considering that 99% of them are coming from the right, maybe you should addressTHAT comment to the shouters and screamers and disrespectful bullies on the other side.

Let's work together to retire Ken Blackwell from politics
Steve LaTourette has a long history of tagging his name onto legislation that he knows doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of being enacted. Establishing "insurance pools" at the state level is a woefully inadequate mirage of a solution to a real problem. The bottom line is that Steve LaTourette voted "no" on the stimulus package; he voted "no" on regulations for banks when it could have made a difference; and he will vote "no" on health care reform. Because you simply cannot have every major insurance and banking concern in the state writing you large checks for ten years and then all of a sudden become a man of the people.  His vote has been bought by the health care/insurance monopoly and it will stay bought.   I want to be wrong. But I am not.  The reality is there are 71,000 uninsured citizens in Ohio's 14th, and their Congressman for life has done NOTHING TO CHANGE THAT FACT. And if there is one thing LaTourette is...he's consistent. Bill Oneill
