Clinton money woes update - Hillary raises money for Obama by going delinquent on rent

The guy in NH who the Clinton campaign stiffed on rent finally got paid....and he's giving the money to Obama.

He said he’s doing it because he likes Obama, but also as a statement on the way he feels he was treated by the staff of the Clinton campaign.  ‘It was the last straw for Hillary Clinton for me,” said Bennett.

Billary sure is using up a lot of those last straws!  What about the guy in Iowa who the Clinton campaign owes $7,500 for cleaning services?  Still waiting!

“I got a call on Sunday from the Clinton campaign who said they were putting the money in a two-day envelope,” said Reese. “Today is Wednesday, and I already got the mail, but there’s no check.”

Maybe he'll donate his check to Obama!  Kind of a cool fundraising model -  Ohio landlords can be the next middlemen!

This isn't all that unusual...

It's small bills like that which leads to campaigns having "paying down the debt" fundraisers at the end of campaigns.  Stuff like that happens all the time on a campaign.  The fact that they still owe money in Iowa, or NH right now, and havn't paid the bills really isn't that surprising or unusual.

What is screwed up - is the fact that they don't have someone talking with their vendors & supporters, and explaining the situation and promising them they will get paid eventually - so they don't "Go to the Press."  & in some cases yes, pay off the bills like they did...

The story here isn't the fact that the Clinton camp can't pay their bills (Because in reality, they can) - It is that they seem totally disorganized and unable to control simple press stories that Could (& SHOULD) be controlled by their campaign.

The longer this campaign has gone on - the less of a strong structural campaign Hillary seems to have put together for herself.  For all the A-listers she has working for her, they seem to have forgotten how to run a campaign, instead of talking on TV about how to run a campaign.

I'm glad I voted for Obama!

What has Obama done politically to make him worthy of President?

What has Obama done as a politician, a leader which makes him so much better for President than our own Rep.Dennis Kucinich, Senators Joe Biden, Christopher Dodd, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards?

I really would like significant, benchmark examples of his leadership skills as a multi-tasker which would be required as President of the Free World. I see he has a historically terrific campaign machine, it can really sell the product to the Wal-Mart voters and he sure can "preach a political sermon" but how is he as a political leader?

How can a Senator who has only completed half of his FIRST Congressional Term, how can he evolve into a Democratic Messiah?

Why was it that all the other Democratic Candidates with long term, multi-decade serving, proven Democratic Leadership in the U.S Senate can't stand knee high to Obama's fundraising machine? In so little time too, say 6-months to a year max!

Senators Biden and Dodd could hardly afford an interactive website design let alone a campaign store; they didn't have a store by the way...whereas;

... Obama came out with the greatest website since MicroSoft came out with Windows XP. ...Amazingly interactive, even young children can easily get involved. The website is packed with on-hands information for the masses at every conceivable level from DVD's to telephone texting and then some. His campaign store puts Macy's to shame, as he even has a clothing line to accommodate change for each season.

I got to ask and so do all of you....Who and the heck is backing him financially and when did it really begin?

I sense before he announced and where FEC has no jurisdiction. Is Obama the life-like character of Oprah's imagination? Is she the silent creator of Obama-mania, the Chrone-Wizard of Obama-Oz?

If not, then outline his political legacy for all to understand.

 Speak-up!

more importantly

I heard a while back that Obama had said "The only way to infiltrate power is to be in power"... now, I'm not racist or anything, but in today's foreign relations with Iraq and the Muslims who killed thousands of American's... that statement coming from a Muslim in America really scares me.  You ask who is backing Obama's campaign... I sure hope it's Oprah and nobody else!!  Now, maybe she can get him to discuss the matters at hand, especially how it is that he plans on bringing upon this change to America in order to give us any hope, because the only thing I'm hoping on right now is for Clinton to get into office so these changes can occur!!

Dipchit

that statement coming from a Muslim in America really scares me

This statement coming from an American reinforces how stupid so many of them are.

stupid, No...

I, like so many, was caught up in his motivational speaking and presentation of things... like much of America is I think... and when I heard that statement made, it stopped me in  my tracks to be honest.  Why would anyone state something like this when our world is under such distress.  I have never forgotten that Obama IS an American, first and foremost... I have heard him speak of never allowing another 9/11 to occur again, and for that, I was greateful to hear... and yet, that statement in itself still was present in the back of my head that HE had made.   Don't you think that Obama could have, and should have taken that into consideration before making a strong statement like that... I can recall Bin Laden in an aired publication to his people making a similar stand... THAT is what put me on edge with the statement in itself.   Had he phrased it differently, I probably wouldn't have ever have given it a second thought.

yes - it is a very stupid comment

on so many levels....

Obama isn't even a Muslim

Islam isn't a race

The comment is just ridiculous - did you base it on that super secret chain e-mail you got?  (because you know, they are always true) <sarcasm> or was it Fox News?

LOL

I'd correct your grammar and spelling errors, but I doubt that you'd get that too.

Hi Nurse

He would have had to report his donations as an elected official even before he declared for Pres.

I know I know call on me!!

What has Obama done to make him worthy of being President?

HE'S WINNING MORE VOTES THAN OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE RUNNING.

thank you.

Hillary has many credentials, but she's not winning, her negative numbers are huge, Independents already are aware of her and aren't supporting her- they will support McCain over Hillary. Her husband is a huge problem for her.  (example, Kazakhstan) Her fundraisers are huge problems for her. (example, Peter Paul, Norman Hsu).

Time for NEW PEOPLE, outenzee with the old.  Hillary will still be in the Senate, 1 of 100 of the most influential people in the nation.  That's not so bad.

jeanLR

that's fantastic.  laughed ass off.

Thanks Tim

I knew we could be friends! :-)

Now that you've aired your feeling, let's discuss Obama.

What about answering some of the identified questions in the OP. Explain to me exactly what his political experience includes, his political legacy and how he became so darn financially top heavy as a public servant? Two books didn't do it....so who or what is his pipeline?

Explain these questions to me because many Obama supporters act like Borg Drones, "Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated" rhetoric without really providing foundational evidence.

Just go ahead, smack me in the head with Obama facts as to why he is the man to be our President. I can take the hit. Please do. He may end up my President and I don't want to have a beer with him!

let's discuss Obama

I wish that all the Obama backers would seriously sit back and listen to him, not just hear his rhetorics.  Yes, America needs change and hope, BUT, how does he plan on doing just that for us?  I haven't heard any subsidence at all as to how he plans on doing this, and nobody seems to even care... they just hear his "cheerleading, preaching" ways of how "yes, we can" but do not ask the hard question "but, how do you plan on doing this?" No, Clinton may not be a motivational speaker like Obama, BUT, the one thing that both candidates are similar on is America NEEDS change. The difference, Clinton outlines how it is that she plans on going about causing the change that we as Americans hope for. The world looks upon America with such disgrace anymore, where once we had the world's respect. The world loves the Clintons.. that's a known fact. Obama can't revive our foreign relations... No, only Clinton can because of who she is.... Has Obama given us anything at all as to how he plans on achieving that? No, I didn't think so. I'm with Liberalnurse when she asks to be smacked in the head with Obama facts, because so far, I haven't heard a one... only promises.. and if anyone remembers, promises are what Bush promised us, and what have we gotten for believing in him? Hey, I'm a republican, and the ONLY candidate I believe can bring that change we so desperately need IS Clinton.

Obama's accomplishments in his 11 years in elective office

I understand your view that of course Hillary Clinton would be a change from the current Bush administration, but that isn't lighting a fire among the electorate: "I'm better than Bush" is not exactly a rebel yell...

I googled around a little and found this piece, written and researched by a blogger here:

Obama's accomplishments in his 11 years in elective office

What has Barack Obama ever accomplished?

"Some Say" that those who support Obama do so without a clue, and do so because of a "Svengali" effect his has on his "cult".

I say that it is unfortunate, in this age of the Internet, that folks aren’t able to inform themselves, yet are able to post on a Political blog to have a say.

I have done my research on Sen. Obama, and so have many of the others who support him. Maybe that is why he is attracting the most educated progressives in this nation; maybe it is because they do their homework, and do not rely on name recognition to determine whom to vote for.

So to inform you, please note the following articles that sum up some of what Barack has “done” in his last 11 years in public office. Considering that Obama may be the Democratic Nominee, I believe that it is important for you, as a public voice, to be informed: (click link)

BrightLight, is that you?

snark

OK Pitchersmom

Well geez, it's only obvious you have a computer.  Now, allow me to take you by the hand and give you a tip:

Type in:  www.barackobama.com

Click on Issues and go from there.

Just say to yourself:  "I think I can.  I think I can.  I think I can," and I'm very sure you'll find your way.

Now take the time to read an extremely detailed outline of his plans.

Obama's Plan

Geez entrwriter... thanks for the website... I don't know how I could ever have figured that out without your help.  You are one pompas egotistical ass to say the least...  Do you honestly think that you are this all knowing human being or something?  Newflash... you're not.

Outlining your plan on a website and speaking of it emphatically in a speech are 2 different things.  I want to hear it out of the horses mouth, not via a computer.  How many people in this country do not have a computer despite this being the age of the internet?  Did you ever stop to think how many more people he would get to if he would speak about his plan outright instead of speaking a broken record of change and hope.  I've been promised change and hope many an elections, and yet, we are as a country at our worst.  So you see, entrwriter, the words out of one's mouth don't really mean much to me when I hear a cheerleader all the time.  Put some subsidence behind it, and now you catch my attention.

If it's people like you and your egotistical attitudes that are voting Obama in to Presidency, then I'm afraid we are in for just another 4 years of questions being asked without anything being done to correct the situation.  I sure hope Obama has more sense then you, that's for sure!!!!

Tsk. Tsk. Pitchersmom

Are you angry with me? Awww..I'm so sorry.

Egotistical?  I think not.  But what I will tell you is that I'm fed up with vitriol on both sides and on this particular blog, you get the same parroted phrase from people who haven't taken the time to do a simple thing like LOOK IT UP.

Secondly, you're a frakkin' hypocrite.  You don't want to hear Barack Obama's "rhetorics" but you do want to hear the "subsidence" behind it.  Here you are:  you want to know what's attractive about Obama?  He doesn't treat his potential constituency like little children who need to be spoonfed his message.

I was damned well ready to support Hillary Clinton until her weaselly husband for whom I voted twice showed that he wasn't as smart as he thought he was.  Another factor:  I heard Obama's  New Hampshire concession speech.  You know, one of those things filled with "rhetorics" and you know what I heard?  A candidate who was gracious while losing and who could remove some of that cynicism that's been festering in my soul for about seven years now.

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_lQYC7vqBg

That encouraged me to take a look at Obama's website.  It made me seek out information.  That is what an engaged electorate does in a democratic society.  You might want to try it sometime before spouting opinions without being fully informed.

Why Obama?

How about this, written by Hilzoy at ObsidianWings and which doesn't include the fact he opposes the use of cluster bombs (which could not be better designed to kill children) and Clinton supports them.

Read the whole thing at http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/2008/02/obama-actually.html:

I came to Obama by an unusual route: as I explained here, I follow some issues pretty closely, and over and over again, Barack Obama kept popping up, doing really good substantive things. There he was, working for nuclear non-proliferation and securing loose stockpiles of conventional weapons, like shoulder-fired missiles. There he was again, passing what the Washington Post called "the strongest ethics legislation to emerge from Congress yet" -- though not as strong as Obama would have liked. Look -- he's over there, passing a bill that created a searchable database of recipients of federal contracts and grants, proposing legislation on avian flu back when most people hadn't even heard of it, working to make sure that soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan were screened for traumatic brain injury and to prevent homelessness among veterans, successfully fighting a proposal by the VA to reexamine all PTSD cases in which full benefits had been awarded, working to ban no-bid contracts in Katrina reconstruction, and introducing legislation to criminalize deceptive political tactics and voter intimidation. And there he was again, introducing a tech plan of which Lawrence Lessig wrote:

"Obama has committed himself to a technology policy for government that could radically change how government works. The small part of that is simple efficiency -- the appointment with broad power of a CTO for the government, making the insanely backwards technology systems of government actually work. But the big part of this is a commitment to making data about the government (as well as government data) publicly available in standard machine readable formats.

The promise isn't just the naive promise that government websites will work better and reveal more. It is the really powerful promise to feed the data necessary for the Sunlights and the Maplights of the world to make government work better. Atomize (or RSS-ify) government data (votes, contributions, Members of Congress's calendars) and you enable the rest of us to make clear the economy of influence that is Washington.

After the debacle that is the last 7 years, the duty is upon the Democrats to be something different. I've been wildly critical of their sameness (remember "Dems to the Net: Go to hell" which earned me lots of friends in the Democratic party). I would give my left arm to be able to celebrate their difference. This man, Mr. Obama, would be that difference. He has as much support as I can give."

... by the number of people who said: well, all this bipartisanship stuff sounds very nice, but how do we know it actually works? Isn't this just happy talk that will evaporate in the face of reality? Or, alternately: doesn't this sort of thing involve selling our souls to our supposed partners in compromise?

Curiously, Obama has an actual legislative record, and so it is possible for us to see both how he approaches bipartisan cooperation and what results it yields. And it turns out that Obama does achieve results by working with Republicans, and doesn't tend to compromise on core principles.

...Obama tries to find people, both Democrats and Republicans, who actually care about a particular issue enough to try to get the policy right, and then he works with them. This does not involve compromising on principle. It does, however, involve preferring getting legislation passed to having a spectacular battle. (This is especially true when one is in the minority party, especially in this Senate: the chances that Obama's bills will actually become law increase dramatically when he has Republican co-sponsors.)"

....Similarly, people often wonder whether Obama's call for a new kind of politics is just empty words. Here again, I think he has a real record to point to. He has consistently worked for ethics reform. In Illinois, where he helped pass what the WaPo called "the most ambitious campaign reform in nearly 25 years, making Illinois one of the best in the nation on campaign finance disclosure." In the US Senate, he was the Democrats' point man on ethics, and was deeply involved in the ethics legislation passed this year. He didn't get all he wanted -- for instance, he and Russ Feingold couldn't get a bill establishing an Office of Public Integrity to deal with Congressional scandals. But he accomplished a lot, and wants to accomplish more....

Why do you suppose Obama

Why do you suppose Obama did not vote for the resolution declaring the Iranian Republic Guard to be a terrorist organization as did Clinton and Edwards? Why do you suppose the Israeli's are getting nervous about Obama? Why do you suppose the Kenyan Government will no longer talk to Obama? He may not be a Muslim but he does belong to an Afro centric church and has supported Muslim organizations and many of his relatives are Muslim. When you dig a bit you see this is not a mainstream politician and its only a matter o time before many African Americans are shocked at who they are supporting to say nothing of the rest of his base.

Brightlight/Dim Bulb

All of your questions can be answered with a teeny amount of research. Of course, you're not interested in the answers or you would have looked. But in the interest of helping out those who are honestly trying to find info....

Declaring the Iranian Guard to be a terrorist org was one of Bush's preludes to invading Iran. Congress had handed Bush a blank check invade Iraq and it wasn't hard to figure out Bush should be kept as far from military power in the Mideast as possible. Edwards wasn't in the senate during the vote, but according to the NYT, he would have voted against it, too.

The Israeli's aren't any more nervous about Obama than Clinton. If you mean AIPAC, say so. They're not Israel, no matter how much the wingnuts seem to forget that.

Can you source where the Kenyan govt won't talk to Obama? I don't know which right wing talking points you're citing from, so I can't tell the direction you're trying to go in.

He goes to an AfroCentrist church. I think you mean a church that lots of blacks attend. I attend a church with lots of whites. Some of the people that go there have some pretty stupid views, but I try to love them anyway. Just like your church, I'm sure.

Many of his relatives are muslim. Many of mine are farmers. So?

There are a lot of *very* good reasons to vote for McCain and HRC. Your's aren't among them.

Generica you are an idiot

His church desribes itself as Afro Centric you idiot. Check it out before you opne your pie hole

LOL...Back to Dimbulb

Ummm, excuse me Dim...I mean BrightLight...no, Dimbulb is about right.

Didn't you chastise me for name calling? Once again, I'm waiting for answers to questions legitimately posed to you by SOMEONE ELSE on this site.

I suspect I will be waiting for a while because:

A) You don't know them.

B) Don't know how to find them.

C) Your are too intellectually lazy to find them or ...

D) All of the above.

Entrwriter

As usual you bring nothing to the table. So No further response required/ Run along a play now.And to the idiot that said he comes from farmers and compared that to Obama's Muslim relatives. There is a high probability that you are more attuned and sensitive to the needs of farmers than the average person. Personally I don’t want Obama mucking around in the Middle East with a pro Muslim

By the way  I have spoked to a number of our fellow Ohioans Black and white  have looked at the church website

http://www.tucc.org and are quite surprised and disappointed  in regard to its radical nature. I think that disappointment is being displayed clearly in the polls.

Thank You Buckeyes.

All Relative

Do people judge your relatives based on you? Are your relatives happy about that? Personally, mine are all dead-end Bushies. I love them, but I learned a long time ago to think for myself.

Brighty

I*said* he went to an Afrocentric church. I just couldn't figure out what your point was. Well, I could have just assumed you were trying to bring up subtle racial inferences to try to alienate people who think like you, but that would have just been pure speculation.

Awwww DimBulb...

Gee, I could give you a lesson in history, but I don't think you have the fertile gray matter for it to take. What's at issue for you? The "non-negotiable commitment to Africa"? Poor baby, I'm sorry. Let's see taken as slaves generally from Africa's west coast and wanting to give back to a continent that gave birth to African-American culture? This is a crime? DimBulb, you're little more than a Christian Conservative Republican trolling a liberal website. Go home, you're now boring me.

Glug glug glug

Drink some more Obama kool aid you empty shirt. You bored me on your first post so deal with it. I tried to be reasonable with you but the rationale wasn't there. You are an Obama zombie but the good news is fellow Democrats will repudiate you and your ilk very soon.
