Yea, I'm sure the Clinton campaign is besides itself with grief here.

Polling has shown Clinton's once-huge lead diminish to single digits in the last weeks of the New Hampshire presidential primary campaign. One poll this week showed Obama slightly ahead.
Helms said a disturbing pattern has emerged, first about Obama's presidential aspirations as a kindergartner, then e-mails on the Muslim religion, and now on past drug use.
"When you see a pattern of people making statements, then a follow-up statement that it wasn't authorized, it doesn't take a genius to see there's a thread going on here," Helms said.

Tim this is directed at you, but really, anyone out there with campaign experience feel free to jump in.
Let's say your trailing in the polls. Momentum is against you. You, gee golly whiz, just don't know what do do.
Is it unthinkable to have a surrogate make a statement, then have them resign, and feign sorrow? Is that one totally off the map? Never happens, right

Your views that political campaigns would never engage in this sort of conduct are reassuring to me. Too often I get cynical about the process. I'm glad you can give me the straight answer - that no one would do this knowingly.
