Anthony Gutierrez Indicted On 10 Charges

David Potts - Posted on 14 May 2009

Proving that the Marc Dann saga will probably never truly be over, Dann’s former aide and the main antagonist of the whole story, Anthony Gutierrez, was indicted on 10 counts today by a Franklin County Grand Jury.

The counts are:

  • One Count – Theft in office (felony)
  • Two Counts – Unauthorized use of property (felony)
  • Three Counts – Workers compensation fraud (felony)
  • Two Counts – Soliciting or receiving improper compensation (misdemeanor)
  • One Count – Improper election activity (misdemeanor)
  • One Count – Filing a false statement (misdemeanor)

Considering Dann was in office for little more than a year, that’s quite a list. Considering Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien’s GOP partisan hack status, I wouldn’t be counting on any mercy for Gutierrez.

What Gutierrez and Dann did were damaging to the reputation of the Democratic party. If a Republican had acted the way these two sleaze balls did I'd be asking for their heads.
But I'm sure he'll try to pin this all on Jennifer Brunner's horrible, tainted elections at some point.
I didn't mean to imply that you meant they deserved mercy. I was just stating my opinion of the two. I'm sure your just as mad about their behavior as I.
But I did leave it pretty vague, and this is something where I probably shouldn't be. :)
Allow me to point out that after a free and open process the Wood County Democratic Party did NOT endorse Marc Dann for election. Rather we endorsed Subodh Chandra. Next time Chris/ODP-- PAY ATTENTION. (But then there is the matter of the CD race... nevermind.)
