About Lee Fisher And The ODP Endorsement
First off, I’ve not seen any real proof that Fisher is actually seeking the party’s endorsement. An email to the Fisher campaign for a comment has yet to be returned, and I doubt it ever will be.
So let’s just get the million dollar question out there:
Why would Lee Fisher, a man that’s purposely spent the last few months avoiding any mention of a primary, suddenly want the party endorsement?
I see two real answers to that, and neither of them make sense to me:
- He feels he needs the endorsement to win the primary.
- He feels that Brunner is far enough behind to push out of the race.
Now here’s why they don’t make any sense.
Theory #1 - Needs Endorsement To Win
As I said, Lee Fisher has basically done everything he can to make people forget there is a primary. If he got so complacent as to suddenly need the party to bail out his primary campaign, there’s absolutely no way in hell Lee Fisher should get this endorsement.
Lee has enjoyed every possible advantage in this race and if he can’t translate that into a win, he needs to be looking into a new career.
Think back to election ‘08 for a second and imagine if Hillary had won the primary through super-delegates. That’s how Brunner’s supporters will see this, and many of them will stay home. And, perhaps more troubling, I really don’t think I’d blame them.
Theory #2 – Sealing The Deal
Now on to theory #2, which won’t take much time. If Lee Fisher feels that he has the nomination bottled up, seeking the endorsement becomes an even stupider move. It’s basically flipping the bird to all the people he needs to be courting for support.
If this is the case, Robert Portman will be our next US Senator. How do I know for sure? Because if this is the case, Lee Fisher is a dumbass of epic proportions.
