A Perfect Summary Of The Tea Party In 2 Minutes

David Potts - Posted on 15 April 2009

In this 2 minute Qik video (shot from my hacked iPhone, so low quality) from tonight Tea Party, you can see the following:

  • Mention of global warming get booed.
  • Shouts of communism
  • Tirades against tax increases that won't affect these people.
  • Talk of the government stealing from the poor to give to the rich.
  • Talk about how your taxes will go towards helping illegal immigrants.

And remember, this all happens in 2 minutes and 7 seconds.

estimate of numbers, david?

I've seen much larger events at that venue, but they had a fair crowd. I'd say there were several hundred. There's a picture here.

well, in a town the size of wheeling, i'd say a crowd of several hundred is pretty meager for an event like this.  that's good news as far as i'm concerned.

back in the 80s i spent a weekend in wheeling for a coal miners strike and was impressed with the town's solidarity as virtually everyone, men, women and children, were wearing the uniform of the strike -- camouflage!  Laughing

They promoted this event in about a 50 mile radius (which is how I heard of it). They also got plenty of TV time about it.

yeah, the liberal media really seems to have given these small gatherings plenty of air time.  same here in cleveland.

if they can only draw several hundred to wheeling for an event promoted in a 50 mile radius, the tea baggers are pretty damned weak.

In SC, we've had several. I attended one Monday night, another Wednesday at lunch. There was a pre-event on Wednesday afternoon in Greenville, another "event" in Spartanburg (30 miles away), and a real event scheduled for tomorrow. Other events in the area were mentioned on the radio, but I forget all of the places. These events are mostly small in SC, with them being started by a lot of different folks. Admittedly, some have the backing of larger groups, but the coordinators are mostly common folk. At the two events I've attended, there were as many complaints about republican politicians as there were against democrats. You may not believe it, but it's not just a Dem vs Rep thing...
I think there may have been some smaller events at different times, but this was supposed to be the big one for the area.
